T-Fiber Staff Review

4.5

T-Fiber is T-Mobile's fiber-optic home internet service, officially launched on June 5, 2025. Built on the infrastructure inherited from T-Mobile's acquisitions of Lumos Networks (completed April 2025) and Metronet (joint venture with KKR, completed July 2025), T-Fiber delivers fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service with symmetrical speeds up to 2 Gbps. As of late 2025, the combined T-Fiber/Metronet fiber network serves more than 3 million homes and businesses across 24 states and more than 300 communities.

T-Fiber's defining differentiators are its 5-year price guarantee on all plans, true symmetrical upload and download speeds (unlike cable), no monthly equipment fees, free professional installation, and access to T-Mobile Tuesdays perks.

T-Fiber is available in select communities across the United States, with the strongest concentration in states served by the former Lumos and Metronet networks. As of late 2025, the service is available across more than 300 communities in at least 24 states.

States with T-Fiber coverage include portions of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, as well as other areas within the historic Lumos and Metronet service areas. Urban and suburban areas with notable coverage include parts of the northern Denver metro, New York City, the Minneapolis metro area (via the USI acquisition), and various Southeast and Midwest markets.

Availability is verified on a house-by-house basis. T-Mobile accepts preorders for addresses in markets scheduled for future fiber deployment, allowing customers to join a waitlist before construction is complete.

Pros

No data caps, contracts, or equipment fees Symmetrical speeds up to 2 Gbps 5-year price guarantee

Cons

Limited availability Recently launched, limited long-term customer feedback under T-Mobile branding Higher entry price than T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Pricing

4.5

T-Fiber launched with three standard plans, all offering symmetrical upload and download speeds; a technical advantage over cable internet, which typically delivers slower upload speeds. A $10/month discount* is available for customers with a qualifying T-Mobile voice (wireless) line. An additional $10/month discount* is available for customers who sign up for Fiber AutoPay. All plans include a 5-year price guarantee, meaning T-Mobile will not change the base plan price for five years from activation.

Cost-Per-Mbps Value Analysis

T-Fiber's entry-level Fiber 500 plan at $75/month translates to 15 cents per Mbps, competitive for fiber service in most U.S. markets. For customers with a T-Mobile voice line and AutoPay, the effective rate drops to 11 cents per Mbps at $55/month, making it one of the more affordable fiber options available nationally.

Reliability and Performance

5.0

Fiber-optic internet delivers data via pulses of light through glass or plastic cables, a technology fundamentally different from fixed wireless or cable. This results in several performance advantages: consistent speeds regardless of peak hours (fiber bandwidth is not shared with cellular subscribers), true symmetrical upload and download speeds, and latency typically in the 5–20 ms range.

Symmetrical speeds are particularly valuable for remote workers, content creators, and households with multiple users simultaneously uploading large files, participating in video calls, or live streaming. A household on the Fiber 500 plan, for example, can simultaneously run a 4K video call (requires approximately 25 Mbps upload), upload a large file to the cloud, and stream 4K video on multiple devices without upload congestion—a scenario that can strain cable internet with its limited upload bandwidth.

Unlike T-Mobile's 5G Home Internet, T-Fiber does not carry a data prioritization provision for heavy users, and performance is not affected by 5G tower proximity or cellular network congestion.

Equipment, Installation and Bonus Features

5.0

T-Fiber includes a Wi-Fi router at no additional cost on all plans. The Fiber 1 Gig and 2 Gig plans include mesh Wi-Fi extenders, as needed. Professional installation is included. T-Mobile's technicians run fiber to your home, install an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) inside, connect it to the included router, and verify the connection is working before leaving.

There are no monthly equipment rental fees and no early termination fees. T-Mobile does not charge for the installation visit. Customers who prefer to use their own compatible router may do so, though T-Mobile will not provide technical support for third-party equipment.

Customer Experience & Support

3.5

T-Fiber launched publicly in June 2025, so long-term customer satisfaction data specific to the T-Mobile branding is limited. The underlying network infrastructure, built by Lumos Networks (founded in 1895, formerly North State Communications) and Metronet (operating since 2005), has a multi-decade track record in its original service communities.

Early customer feedback following the T-Mobile transition has been positive, with T-Mobile noting that it has maintained local service teams from Lumos and Metronet to preserve continuity. Metronet's existing customers give the network high marks for reliability and speed performance in independent reviews, consistent with fiber internet's overall advantage in customer satisfaction metrics.

In the 2025 ACSI Telecommunications Study, the fiber internet segment as a whole outperforms non-fiber providers. T-Fiber's satisfaction scores are not yet independently reported by ACSI or J.D. Power, given the brand's recent launch, but the underlying infrastructure is fiber-grade FTTH, which typically earns the highest satisfaction in its markets.

For customers transitioning from Lumos or Metronet, T-Mobile has said that existing pricing, discounts, and service levels will be maintained through the transition, with billing and customer service gradually moving to T-Mobile's systems.

FAQ's

As of February 2026, T-Fiber is available in select communities across at least 24 states, including portions of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, among others. Availability is expanding continuously as Metronet builds new fiber infrastructure. Check T-Mobile's website for current availability at your specific address.
Professional installation is included at no charge. T-Mobile's technicians run fiber-optic cable to your home, install an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) inside, connect it to the included Wi-Fi 6 router or mesh system, and test the connection. The process typically requires a scheduled technician visit.
No. All T-Fiber plans include unlimited data with no caps and no overage fees.
T-Mobile will not change the base price of your T-Fiber plan for five years from your activation date. The guarantee does not cover taxes, fees, optional equipment upgrades, or third-party services. It does not restart if you change plans after activation.
Following T-Mobile's acquisitions, residential customers of both Lumos and Metronet are transitioning to T-Mobile Fiber. Pricing, discounts, and service levels are being maintained through the transition. Billing systems and customer service are gradually moving to T-Mobile's platforms.
