T-Mobile offers fixed wireless home internet with unique 15-day “test drive”

T-Mobile delivers competitive speeds with Un-carrier value and reliability across two distinct internet services. Following its acquisition of Lumos in 2025, T-Mobile has emerged as a serious player in both the fiber internet and 5G home internet markets. Now serving over 500,000 households across 32 markets with fiber service, plus nationwide 5G coverage, T-Mobile brings its signature "Un-carrier" approach to the internet with no contracts, no data caps, and genuine price transparency [1]. T-Mobile offers two completely different internet technologies:
  • T-Mobile Fiber: Traditional fiber-optic internet with symmetrical speeds up to 2 Gbps, built on the century-old legacy of North State Communications and Lumos Networks
  • T-Mobile 5G Home Internet: Fixed wireless service using T-Mobile's extensive 5G cellular network, available nationwide where coverage exists
Building on proven infrastructure with innovative customer service, T-Mobile's official fiber launch in June 2025 introduced plans backed by a 5-year price guarantee, distinguishing it from competitors that routinely increase rates after promotional periods. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet has been available since 2021 and uses the carrier's extensive cellular network to provide fixed wireless internet service as an alternative to traditional cable internet. Early customer feedback suggests T-Mobile has successfully maintained the local service quality that made Lumos popular while adding the resources and innovation of America's fastest-growing internet provider. If you are currently using DSL or satellite internet, there’s a good chance that T-Mobile can offer you better performance. Additionally, T-Mobile offers unique features, including a 15-Day Test Drive, which allows you to check service satisfaction with a full refund guarantee if you're not satisfied.

Pros

Fast speeds with 5G technology No data caps or contracts Low, transparent pricing Easy self-installation for 5G Home Internet Professional installation is included for Fiber

Cons

5G network not available in all areas 5G speeds can vary Limited fiber availability compared to national providers

Pricing

4.5
Competitive pricing with T-Mobile's signature price transparency T-Mobile Fiber keeps things refreshingly simple with three main speed tiers, all offering symmetrical upload and download speeds that outperform cable internet. The entry-level plan delivers 500 Mbps for $75 monthly, but existing T-Mobile customers receive an even better deal. If you have a qualifying T-Mobile voice line, you'll save $15 per month with AutoPay, reducing the 500 Mbps plan to just $60—an excellent deal for fiber. What sets T-Mobile apart is its 5-year price guarantee [1]. While other providers charge you $20-30 annual increases, T-Mobile locks in your rate for five full years. No promotional pricing tricks. Just honest pricing that stays put.

Fiber 500Fiber InternetUp to 500 Mbps$75 ($60 with T-Mobile voice line)5-Year Price Guarantee, Wi-Fi 6 Router and Installation Included
T-Mobile 5G Home Internet offers clear, affordable pricing without surprises. There are three plans to choose from, all using an all-inclusive monthly fee structure. These prices are about average for entry-level internet plans. T-Mobile's key advantage is its speed, which surpasses DSL, and its competitive pricing compared to satellite internet.

Reliability and Performance

4.3
T-Mobile delivers blazing speeds up to 2 Gbps with Fiber and competitive wireless speeds with 5G. T-Mobile Fiber offers genuine symmetrical speeds, meaning your uploads match your downloads—a game-changer for remote work, content creation, and video calls. With speeds ranging from 500 Mbps to 2 Gbps, you'll handle multiple 4K streams, cloud backups, and online gaming without breaking a sweat. The fiber infrastructure inherited from Lumos provides rock-solid reliability that cable internet can't match. Building on networks that some communities have trusted for over a century, T-Mobile has enhanced the existing fiber backbone with its own innovations and support systems. Unlike cable connections that slow down during peak hours, fiber maintains consistent speeds whether it's 3 AM or 8 PM. T-Mobile includes unlimited data with all plans, allowing you to stream, game, and work without worrying about usage meters or incurring overage fees. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet delivers competitive speeds using the carrier's 5G cellular network. Performance varies based on location and network conditions: Typical Speed Ranges:
  • Download speed: 72-415 Mbps (varies by plan and location)
  • Upload speed: 12-56 Mbps
  • Latency: 19-37 ms
The service works best in areas with strong T-Mobile 5G coverage. T-Mobile has the largest 5G network in the United States and was the fastest mobile operator in the nation for Q4 2023, according to Ookla Speedtest [2]. During peak hours, some customers may experience reduced speeds due to network prioritization. Many factors can affect wireless internet transmission, including proximity to signal towers, weather, terrain, network congestion, and video quality [3]. These speed ranges are sufficient to support most internet activities, including online gaming, HD streaming, remote work, video conferencing, and working with large files. The latency is generally acceptable for gaming (most gamers recommend under 50 ms).

Equipment, Installation and Bonus Features

4.5
Professional equipment and installation are included at no extra cost T-Mobile includes professional-grade Wi-Fi equipment with every fiber plan—no monthly rental fees. The Fiber 500 plan comes with a basic Wi-Fi 6 router, while Fiber 1 Gig and 2 Gig plans include whole-home mesh systems that blanket your entire house in fast, reliable Wi-Fi. Professional installation comes standard with no extra charges—a refreshing change from providers who charge $99 or more for "activation fees." T-Mobile's technicians handle everything from running fiber lines to setting up your Wi-Fi network [4]. T-Mobile includes a 5G gateway (modem/router) with its monthly fee, so you won't have to add an additional $10-15 to your monthly bill, unlike with many other ISPs. Higher-tier plans include premium gateways and extra features. Installation is far easier than with wired internet plans — essentially self-installation with a simple setup. You will have a one-time device connection fee (under $40 at this time) [4]. The Amplified plan also includes a mesh access point for larger home coverage.

Bonus Features

As a T-Mobile internet customer, you'll gain access to:
  • T-Mobile Tuesdays for weekly deals and freebies
  • Future perks may include add-ons to streaming services and travel discounts
  • Unlimited tech support from Assurant Personal TechPro (Amplified 5G plan) for any devices connected to your Wi-Fi
  • 15-Day Test Drive for 5G service with full refund guarantee
The included equipment works seamlessly with T-Mobile's network; however, you can also use your compatible router if you prefer. Unlike some providers, T-Mobile won't penalize you for bringing your own equipment.

Customer Experience & Support

4.3
Local fiber service teams backed by T-Mobile's national support network T-Mobile has maintained the same local support teams that served Lumos customers for fiber service, ensuring continuity of the personalized service that made the regional provider popular. These local teams now have the backing of T-Mobile's national customer service infrastructure, giving you the best of both worlds. Early reports from the fiber transition suggest T-Mobile has successfully preserved the community-focused approach while adding the resources and innovation of a major carrier. T-Mobile's "Un-carrier" philosophy emphasizes straightforward service without hidden fees or confusing policies. Customer feedback on T-Mobile's internet services has been overwhelmingly positive, with users praising the reliable speeds, transparent pricing, and helpful support. However, some 5G customers report issues with gaming latency and variable speeds during peak hours.

Too expensive for me and from what I was told that was the only option they had that came with a $300 virtual gift card promotion. 2 months later I found out that I was denied the rebate because of an ineligible rate! A sales rep is the one who set up my internet acct and I did not change a thing but still lost. I just need a great internet provider so I can continue to work from home.

Currently using mobile network for tablet and phone. Service is great for the most part. if I have issues that cannot be resolved online, then by phone, and finally if still unresolved. There's usually a local office. So happy with customer service too. Unfortunately home Internet is not available in my area.

I have nothing to really say about T-Mobile because of the fact that they have a problem with latency when it comes to gaming on multiple systems and the router is supposed to be able to connect up to 64 devices at a time but it's bad with just 4 devices hooked up

A lot of buffering during streaming. A hell of a lot of long buffering during Eagles games. I can get my email on my phone But not on my computer. Whether or not that is due to the router I don't know. I can get my alternate email up.
