Your State’s Favorite ‘90s Sitcom (and ‘90s Reboot!)

Bring back the ‘90s!

When Must See TV rocked our water-cooler talk and TGIF ruled the airwaves. When you could tune in to classic family sitcoms like Full House and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Life was dope when you could hang with Rachel, Phoebe, and Joey on Friends.

Hard to believe it has been decades since we first met the Tanner family or saw Will Smith lay down some rhymes as the Fresh Prince. But these iconic ’90s shows made a lasting impact.

Dude, can you believe that 35% of Americans STILL watch a ‘90s sitcom every week according to a recent survey?

No way! WAY, dude!

Now what about the reboots? Yes, those madly creative if slightly weird updates have brought our favorite ‘90s sitcoms back to life with new casts (and sometimes old cast members too!)

A full 50% of Americans tune into the ‘90s reboots, EVEN MORE people than watch the original series.

Our data tells us there is a serious chance that you yourself might be a fan of Fuller House, Bel-Air, or That 90’s Show.

Now it’s time to find out whether other people in your state share your fandom.

Word! Of all the classic ’90s shows, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is da bomb, taking top honors in 23 states. With Carlton’s uber-geeky dance moves, and Will and Jazz getting tossed out the front door by Uncle Phil on the regular, how could it not? Almost the whole East Coast went for the Fresh Prince—maybe they’re dreaming of catching some rays in California?

The West Coast, meanwhile, joins with Maine and Rhode Island in rooting for the little yellow cartoon people we all know as the Simpsons. All the West Coast, that is, except Washington. D’oh!

Washington just wants to groove with the in-crowd, because it joins a big 14-state pack from middle America who choose Friends as their top ‘90s sitcom. These are the people who know all the words to “Smelly Cat.”

Coming in with just 4 states is That ‘70s Show. Well, what did you expect, homeslice? This IS an article about the ‘90s! But we’re not dissing on Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, or Ohio for liking some ‘70s cool mixed in with their ‘90s vibe. We do wonder if there’s some bizarre connection between the number of vowels in your state name and how much you love That ‘70s Show.

Finally, we have the Super Freaks of our line-up, the shows that got one state championship each! Let’s hear it for Montana’s victory for Full House, Missouri for choosing Roseanne, South Dakota for digging Married with Children, and Vermont for crushing on King of the Hill. Why? Talk to the hand. We’re not even gonna go there. We’re especially not gonna ask why squeaky-clean Kansas loves Sex and the City. LOL!

WHO LOVES ‘90s SITCOMS?
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 23 states
Friends 14 states
That ‘70s Show 4 states
The Simpsons 4 states
Sex and the City 1 state
Roseanne 1 state
Full House 1 state
Married with Children 1 state
King of the Hill 1 state

Those original ‘90s sitcoms were pretty fly. With the click of a remote, we can go back to those heady days of flannel shirts, ripped jeans and jamming to the Spin Doctors!

What’s Your State’s Favorite ‘90s Sitcom Reboot?

But if ‘90s sitcoms are still all that…

then ‘90s sitcom reboots are all that and a bag of chips! You know it!

But we have some shocking news here, because one of these ‘90s reboots just runs away with that whole bag of chips.

Check out these results to see which show is the massive favorite across 28 states. That’s more than half, girls and bros! Drum roll, please…

You got that right. Fuller House just stomps the competition. Even without those cute little Olsen twins, this show is pure cheesy comfort food, just like the original! But is it cozy or weird that so many of the original stars like Candace Cameron Bure are still hanging out with us? (It’s definitely a little unnerving that John Stamos looks EXACTLY the same—and we mean, exactly. Who has this guy made a pact with for eternal youth?

Oh, wait a minute. That sounds more like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Remember that cute little sitcom called Sabrina the Teenage Witch about Sabrina and her talking cat Salem? Well, get ready for a major switch-up! This is not exactly a reboot, but it’s so fresh we had to include it. Witchiness got a lot scarier and less silly! This new, scary Sabrina tops the ‘90s reboot list in 3 states.

But heartwarming fare may be the ultimate winner here, because Girl Meets World won top honors in 8 states. This ‘90s reboot brings back our beloved Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World, but now as ADULTS, can you believe it? With their own daughter, Riley! We get a little tear in our eyes sometimes for this one, because this is choice, dude! We are not worthy!

Almost as excellent is That ‘90s Show, the favorite in 7 states. We get to chill with the teens in Point Place, Wisconsin, the height of urban hip happenings. NOT! But that’s just what we love about That ‘90s Show. Just like That ‘70s Show, it’s a slice of small-town life where the best place to hide from the ‘rents is your basement.

Finally, we’ve got some small but mighty champs to bring us home. Bel-Air was tops in Arizona and North Dakota, while Saved by the Bell took New York. Weird, cuz! Why do these states love shows set in California so much? But whatevs!

What makes a whole lotta sense is that The Conners, the Roseanne reboot set in Lanford, Illinois, swept to number one in Illinois. Now that’s home state pride!

AND THE WINNER IS…
Fuller House 28 states
Girl Meets World 8 states
That ‘90s Show 7 states
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina 3 states
Bel-Air 2 states
Saved by the Bell 1 state
The Conners 1 state

So here are some slammin’ stats on how our survey divided over these shows.

People keep their loyalty to those original ‘90s sitcoms! And it is sometimes girls vs. boys, for sure.

74% of men named The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as their #1. Hey, it’s hard not to want to be Will. We get it.

78% of women are all about Full House as their favorite. We get this too, but let’s not forget that over 1 in 5 women chose a different top show. Because if the ‘90s was about anything, it was about the freedom of you being you – dude or dudette. So yeah, we all love the Olsen Twins. But there are some serious female fans of Bart Simpson, Kelso, and Screech too.

The community turned out for the Fresh Prince bigtime, as 90% of Black viewers voted for that classic as their fave. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air brought a beloved Black family into the limelight and into our hearts for good. That is something that a lot of us remember with joy. Even those of us in too-cool-for-school Gen X had to get behind a show that awesome. It wasn’t just a sitcom. It was epic. For real!

Speaking of keeping it real, let’s put it out there. 25% of those who enjoy the original ‘90s sitcoms do not think that the ‘90s reboots are phat, fresh, or fly. They don’t like reboots. And we are down with that.

‘90s fans, party on!
